I was just about to Publish this post below. Then I searched for links to the sites mentioned, and I stumbled across an article from the LA Times which said that the cool folks at Infinite Zombies and This Bolaño group are basically doing the same thing (only better). And, since my idea is fairly half-assed, I’m just going to follow them instead. Thank you guys! And you’re even starting right when I wanted to! Huzzah!
Their schedule is here. So count me in![BEGIN ORIGINAL POST]
On the Inifinite Summer website, plans had been afoot for reading Roberto Bolaño’s 2666 over January and February. However, if you go to the site, there’s nary a mention, and it hasn’t been updated for months.
The message boards mention an actual reading going on at the Roberto Bolaño group. It begins on January 16th, but there doesn’t seem to be a great amount of excitement about it there, either.
I had planned to read 2666, so I’m going to start shortly. I can’t do the Jan 16th start date for a number of reasons, but I do hope to start shortly after that. And, like with Infinite Summer, I’m going to write some weekly pieces about this–as I am led to believe–difficult book.
For Infinite Summer, I really wanted to read Infinite Jest. I had read it years before and knew I loved it. This time, I don’t know much about 2666 except that people have really loved it. I hope to as well.
I haven’t worked out a pacing schedule yet, although I think something like 75 pages a week is manageable (again, I haven’t cracked the book yet so I don’t know what I’m in for).
I don’t have the manpower or stamina to create an official reading group here (I barely have enough time to read the book itself), but if anyone was planning on doing the Infinite Summer-like read and would like to read along, we can talk about a schedule of sorts.
