[ATTENDED: July 24, 2016] The Districts
Despite the heat of Saturday, we were prepared to go back to the Fest on Sunday–with plans to pop into the Aquarium before the show. I had wanted to see three artists on Sunday, but we only managed two.
I knew The Districts from WXPN , and I’d heard that their shows were a lot of fun. And that was spot on.
This was the only show we watched at the River Front stage–the larger of the two. Rather than fight the sun, we hung out on the periphery in the shade and, while we weren’t all that close, we could see the band fine and the sound was outstanding–it was actually a little better off to the side then in the front where it was little ear-piercing.
Unlike the other bands we saw, The Districts were there to rock out and rock out they did.
There set was full of energy and lead singer Ben Grote was jumping around and moving all over the place (it was especially fun to watch because of his hair).
From our perch on the side I couldn’t see the whole band–just Grote and the second guitarist. For one song I moved to the bleachers and watched head on for a bit but then I retreated to the shade again.
I knew some of the songs but I enjoyed just as much the songs I didn’t know.
The guys didn’t say a lot between songs (and when they did it was kind of mumbled) but that’s okay, we were there to rock. After the show they stuck around for a meet and greet but the line was so long we didn’t stay.
It’s great finding a young band (they have two albums and a couple of EPs out) who is really good and looks to have staying power. I’d love to see them again in a club sometime.
See some better photos and stream their set here.
